Sonic Prototype ROM Images
These are the most sought after items within the scene. They're also the rarest.
The most wanted prototypes are of the 2D series of Sonic games for Genesis/MegaDrive.
Note that as the hacking scene matures, finding a prototype will get
increasingly difficult as hacks are often mistakenly passed around as prototypes.
It's your job to verify its authenticity before announcing your findings!
Magazine Scans
Screenshots or descriptions in magazines that show discrepancies with
respect to the final version of Sonic 2.
Prototype screenshots that differ from our prototype are particularly of
interest.
Please include the name of the magazine, issue, and page number when
submitting. If possible, scan the entire page and not just the screenshot.
Hidden Sprites/Tiles
Sprites/Tiles in Sonic 2 or Sonic 2 Beta that are present in the ROM but are
not used in normal gameplay. Please include the your method of finding the
sprites, and the hex address of the sprite. Again this will be difficult, since the ROM has been
examined to death and most of the lost sprites have been discovered.
Donation
As much as I want to keep S2B ad-free, it does cost time and money to maintain the site.
If you like this site, please show your appreciation by clicking the banner once in a while, it'll put an extra penny in my pocket.
And you don't actually lose a penny, isn't it nice? Thanks!

Theories
There are several technically sound theories, but on the other
hand, many are merely fantasies and wishful thinking made up by fans.
Since we've learned to extract data from the ROM through reverse
engineering, theories are a thing of the past.
At S2B, we've learned that groundless speculations lead us
nowhere and publishing them would merely fuel rumors and
misinformation. Therefore, theories gives way to cold hard facts here.
With that said, you can still post sound and solid theories
at the message board.
Hacked Games
Don't tell us about hacks that feature completed "lost" zones, such
as a finished Genocide City Zone. We know they exist, we don't care
about them.
They're not made by Sonic Team and provide no value in terms of
giving us official insight into what the levels were intended (by the
designers) to look like.
